The Villas and the Property

Thirty-two (32) high-end luxury villas will be constructed on the given site. Due to the varying slopes found on the land, three (3) types of Villa have been designed to suit a particular range of slope. These three types vary in size and form, but each follows a similar material and functional character. All services and amenities associated with first-class international resorts will be available for the exclusive use of owners or guests. Turtle Crawle Hill provides a lush vegetative landscape with spectacular views to the north and east. The site is easily accessible from the town center and it is within close proximity to the sea, beaches and numerous other high-end luxury resorts and villas.

Villa Guango

Villa Mahoe

Villa Sweetwood

With a material palette of glass, stone and timber, this Villa uses the juxtaposition of forms and the contrasting material elements to reflect the natural quality of the environment in context.
The upper-deck, made of concrete, breaks away from the material palette as it purposefully emboldens itself as a cantilevered wing off the main stone base of the Villa.
The timber cladding is of a sand-dashed finish, mimicking the traditional Jamaican house of the 19th Century.
The multi-tiered nature of this Villa allows it to be used on a variety of locations within the Turtle Crawle Hill site, as the base may be extended or contracted in height to facilitate a relatively flat site or a steep site.

The grand nature of this Villa is both emphasized and understated by the forms and material selection.
Upon entry, a forested courtyard orients the visitor to an entertainment deck with infinity edge pool, from which all public areas have access.
The centrality of the focal points of the Villa enable it to become ideal for entertainment and fine living.
While the soft nature of the timber clad walls on the upper level are sandwiched between the heavy quality of the concrete clad overhangs above and the packed stone base below.
This material play on the eyes serves to reduce the visual scale of the Villa, making a grand space more livable.

As this Villa is designed for sites with very steep to severe slopes, it is conceptually meant to be an imposition on the site, much like a tree emerging from the forest floor.
Following this concept, the Villa reflects the vertical nature of the trees in context as they climb upwards in the search for light in a densely forested landscape.
Skylights at key locations on the roof allow light from above to filter all the way through to the lowest floor. The form of the Villa represents a “nine-square” box of which planes have been subtracted to create an intermingling of space.
The solidity of this form has been fragmented by the horizontal and vertical sun screens on its perimeter.
The entire Villa floats above its stone base through a series of flying buttresses which connect to timber clad vertical stems, mimicking the trunks and branches of the trees in context.
